Fontaines D.C. have claimed their second UK Number One album with Dopamine Chamber. Following Skinty Fia in 2022 and the success of Romance, the Dublin band have reached another career milestone with their fifth studio album, released through XL Recordings.
Fontaines D.C. have stormed to the top of the UK Official Albums Chart with their fifth studio album, Dopamine Chamber, marking a major milestone in the rise of one of Ireland’s most influential modern rock bands.
Released on 16 October 2026 through XL Recordings, the album gives the Dublin five-piece their second UK Number One, following the success of Skinty Fia in 2022. The achievement further cements their transformation from critically acclaimed post-punk newcomers into one of the most important alternative acts of their generation.
According to the Official Charts Company, Dopamine Chamber shifted more than 70,000 chart units during its opening week, securing the third-biggest album opening of 2026 so far. It also became the fastest-selling studio album by an Irish artist in 15 years, since Snow Patrol’s Fallen Empires in 2011.

A second Number One for Fontaines D.C.
The new chart-topper represents another significant step forward for a band whose success has steadily grown with every release. Their 2019 debut, Dogrel, introduced audiences to their distinctive blend of restless guitars, sharp social observation and distinctly Dublin character. Follow-up A Hero’s Death expanded their sound, while Skinty Fia delivered their first UK Number One in 2022.
Their 2024 album, Romance, pushed the group towards an even wider audience. It reached Number Two on the UK Albums Chart, earned Grammy nominations and helped establish Fontaines D.C. as a global force in alternative music.
Now, Dopamine Chamber has taken them one step further. The new Number One demonstrates that the band’s growing ambition has not come at the expense of their ability to connect with listeners. Instead, their willingness to evolve appears to have strengthened their appeal.
A darker, more experimental sound
Produced by James Ford, Dopamine Chamber finds Fontaines D.C. moving further into atmospheric electronics, experimental production and emotionally charged songwriting. Across its 11 tracks, the album explores pleasure, obsession and uncertainty against a backdrop of unease about the world around us.
Opening track “Six Shot Morning” establishes an ominous atmosphere, while lead single “Marianne” provides one of the album’s defining moments. “Mimesis”, “Tongue” and “One Man” continue the record’s restless progression, balancing the band’s familiar intensity with more expansive arrangements.
One of the most notable moments arrives with “Where Is Gone?”, featuring Spanish superstar ROSALÍA. The collaboration marks a new creative departure for the group, demonstrating their willingness to bring different musical perspectives into their world without losing their identity.
The album closes with “Intimate”, a fitting end to a record that captures the tension between escapism and uncertainty. Rather than simply repeating the formula that made Romance successful, Fontaines D.C. have used their fifth album to explore new territory.

The Irish indie scene continues to rise
Fontaines D.C.’s achievement also reflects the growing international profile of Irish alternative music. The band have helped bring renewed attention to a scene built on distinctive songwriting, strong live performances and artists willing to challenge expectations.
Their success sits alongside a wider wave of Irish acts attracting audiences beyond their home country. For Fontaines D.C., however, this latest Number One is not simply a victory for the scene: it is evidence of a career built on consistent artistic development.
Their journey from the raw urgency of Dogrel to the ambitious production of Dopamine Chamber illustrates how far they have travelled in seven years. They have retained the intensity that first made them stand out while expanding their musical vocabulary and reaching increasingly large audiences.
What comes next?
With Dopamine Chamber now at Number One, attention will turn to how the album performs in the weeks ahead and whether its singles can make a similar impact. “Marianne”, “Six Shot Morning” and “Mimesis” have all featured in the UK chart conversation surrounding the release.
The band are also preparing for major live dates in 2027, including two shows at Slane Castle in Ireland, a venue associated with some of the country's biggest musical events. The scale of those performances reflects the position Fontaines D.C. now occupy: no longer simply a band tipped for international success, but one capable of headlining landmark shows.
For now, the Number One album is the headline achievement. With Dopamine Chamber, Fontaines D.C. have delivered another defining moment in their career, secured their second UK chart-topper and strengthened their status as one of the leading bands in modern alternative rock.
Fontaines D.C. have reached the summit again, and their evolution shows no sign of slowing down.
